INTERIOR PAINTS - Wall and ceiling
The paints below are suitable for internal walls in houses and commercial
premises. Rapid advances in the technology of eco friendly paints over the
past five years means you can now choose from eco friendly natural
paints and eco friendly
synthetic paints.
On the whole natural paints are a little more environmentally friendly in their manufacture and disposal than synthetic paints. However
synthetic paints are generally a little less expensive, a little more durable, and come in a wider range of colours. Both are non-toxic
and have zero of very low VOC's. The choice is yours.
You can order online at the end of each description, or by phoning Deb on 02 6680 5729. Payment can be made by direct transfer, credit card,
or by posting a cheque or money order.
Bio Wall Paint
Made from natural and non-toxic plant and mineral ingredients in an ecologically sustainable manner. A good choice if you
respect the balances of nature and wish to avoid chemicals in your home. The most popular natural paint used over the past
20 years in Australia. Zero VOCs. Made in Australia by Bio Products.
Suitable for interior walls and ceilings, including wet areas, in both domestic and some commercial situations.
Appearance is matt.
Colours are created by mixing natural pigment tints, purchased separately, with either the White or the Deep Base paint.
Mixing pigments with the Deep Base paint gives stronger colours while mixing then with the white gives more pastel colours.
Pigments are available in red, brown, orange, golden ochre, ochre, yellow, blue, green, violet and black.
See examples of mixing these with either the White or Deep Base paint on
the Bio website or request a colour chart for $3 including postage.
Pigments come in 100ml, 250ml and 1L sizes and prices vary according to the colour.

Durability is good. It can be washed and has medium stain resistance. It can be over coated with a clear protection if necessary in high abrasion areas.
Priming is needed for new gyprock, bare timber, or other highly absorbent surfaces. Use Bio Primer for new Gyprock and other highly absorbent walls or ceilings.
Use Bio Enamel Undercoat for bare timber, particle board, masonite or MDF.
Application is with a roller, brush, or spray gun as for conventional paints. Easy to use.
Drying time is 4-6 hours between coats.

Clay Paint
Made from natural clay in an ecologically sustainable manner. This is the healthiest choice for very chemically sensitive people as
it is totally odourless and provides a very pleasant and healthy living environment because clay absorbs odours and variations in room humidity.
Clay paint is also very versatile. It can be applied like conventional paint with a roller or brush, or applied with a trowel and
polished, and even mixed with sand, to give various decorative and textured finishes. It's earthy nature and colours blend well with
natural surroundings and inspire creativity. Made by Volvox.
Suitable for interior walls and ceilings in domestic and some commercial situations. Suitable for exterior walls
if protected from frost and excessive rain. Not suitable for areas that require frequent washing.
Appearance is ultra matt. It looks and feels like plaster and goes beautifully with natural stone and wood.
Clay paint can also appear as a textured render by adding fine sand, or used to create various marble-like effects
when applied and polished with a trowel. It can be clear coated or waxed for a more durable satin finish.
Colours are natural clay colours: mont blanc(white), ivory, dacar, sienna, terracotta, smoke, polar.
The colours below are approximations only. There are also beautiful tinted colours available. Clay paint colour charts
showing the natural clay colours and beautiful tinted colours can be mailed for $4 including postage.
Sample pots of the natural clay colours can also be purchased (see Buy clay paint below).

Odour is nil
Vapour permeability is extremely high. Clay paint allows walls to breath and discourages mould growth. Clay also contains natural
antimicrobial properties.
Cleaning is with a damp cloth only. Because of its ultra matt texture clay paint has low stain resistance. It can be wiped
but not scrubbed. It can however be waxed or clear coated for more protection in vulnerable areas.
Priming is not needed on most surfaces. Clay paint sticks well to almost any clean, firm, dry surface including wood,
concrete and metal. On very absorbent surfaces such as new gyprock, mud brick, or sandstone, the wall can be dampened with a water spray before painting, to reduce absorbency and increase coverage. Alternatively the first coat can be thinned with 5 % water to gain better coverage on these surfaces. Bare metal is best primed first with a metal primer. Clay paint will not peel and is also a good base coat
for other paints.
Application is with a roller, brush, or spray gun for a conventional paint finish. Decorative effects are possible by applying it
with a trowel and polishing to create a marble like finish; layering several colours and then sanding through to get a distressed look; or by adding sand and using a large brush to create a textured rende look. These
require a little practice.
Drying time is 6-12 hours between coats
Clean up is with water.
Storage of left over paint is possible if no contamination has been introduced to the tin and air is excluded from
the paint by a layer of clingwrap. Alternatively consider donating leftover paint to a charity.
Disposal of dried paint is possible in a compost heap or with household garbage.
Coverage is aproximately 8 sq.m/ litre.
Coats needed is usually two to get the beautiful ultra matt texture. Because of its excellent hiding power however one thick
coat may sometimes be possible, especially when using white or tinted colours.

UltraSaten Wall Paint
UltraSaten is a superb high quality acrylic wall paint that has extremely washable, hard wearing properties. Water based, solvent free,
non-toxic, easy to use and with a beautiful finish makes this paint highly praised by proffessional painters and those who live with
it. Made by Oikos
Suitable for interior walls in domestic and all commercial situations. Especially suited to children's rooms, kitchens,
schools, hospitals and public places that are subject to dirt, abrasion and frequent cleaning.
Appearance is matt, low sheen, or gloss. Matt or low sheen are recommended for most wall situations as these produce a
high quality aesthetic appearance whilst remaining highly washable. Gloss has less hiding power than matt or low sheen but may
be used as a final coat on trim areas.
Colours UltraSaten is available in all modern paint colours. Although the OIKOS tints are unique solvent free tints they
use the same tinting system and computer colour matching as other conventional paints. This means we can match a colour chosen from
any locally available colour chart such as Dulux or Wattyl, or a full Oikos colour chart can be posted to you for
$12 (refundable on return).

Transport costs are saved by leaving the water out. UltraSaten matt is a self-expanding paint that does not leave signs of roller
or brush strokes. Easy to apply. Beautiful results.
Drying time is 4 - 6 hours between coats.
Clean-up is with water.
Storage of left over paint is possible if no contamination has been introduced to the tin and air is excluded from the
paint by a layer of clingwrap. Alternatively consider donating left over paint to a charity.
